Which Trading Journals Work with Topstep?

4 min read

Short answer: Tanto, TradeZella and TradesViz auto-sync with TopstepX. TraderSync, Trademetria and Edgewonk work through a file import. Tradervue has no TopstepX-specific import. Any auto-sync also needs Topstep's paid API subscription.

Every Topstep account now trades on TopstepX, so the question that matters is whether a journal supports TopstepX specifically. Support for Tradovate or Rithmic doesn't cover your Topstep accounts.

Auto-sync vs file import

Auto-sync pulls trades from TopstepX for you. Every journal that offers it needs a TopstepX API key, and the API is a separate paid subscription from Topstep: $29 a month at the time of writing, billed by Topstep, not by the journal. Factor that in when comparing journal prices.

File import is free on Topstep's side. You export your trades from TopstepX and upload the file to your journal. It works fine, but you have to remember to do it, and it's easy to fall behind after a bad week, which is exactly when reviewing matters most.

Sync speed matters if you review during the session. A journal that syncs once a day shows today's trades tonight. One that syncs within seconds lets you check a trade right after you close it.

Which one fits you?

  • You don't want to pay for API access: any journal with a TopstepX file import works. Export weekly so you don't fall behind.

  • You review once at the end of the day: a daily sync like TradesViz's is enough.

  • You review between trades or right after the session: pick a journal that syncs within seconds on its own, like Tanto, so you never have to trigger a sync.

  • You trade several Combines at once: pick a journal that tracks accounts separately and together.

How to export your trades from TopstepX

  1. In TopstepX, open the Trades tab at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Click Export and choose your date range.

  3. Click Export again. The file downloads as a spreadsheet.

Most journals expect the Trades export, not Orders. If your file comes out empty, widen the date range. Topstep's TopstepX help article covers the export in more detail.

Journal by journal

Does TradeZella work with Topstep?

Yes. TradeZella supports TopstepX auto-sync with your TopstepX username and API key, plus a dedicated TopstepX file import. Synced accounts re-sync every 3 hours, and the auto-sync needs Topstep's paid API subscription.

Does TraderSync work with Topstep?

Through file import. As of mid-2026, TraderSync's supported broker list included TopstepX for file uploads but didn't show auto-sync for it.

Does TradesViz work with Topstep?

Yes. TradesViz auto-syncs TopstepX once a day, usually after 6 PM ET, with manual sync available. It also has a dedicated TopstepX file import. The auto-sync needs Topstep's paid API subscription.

Does Edgewonk work with Topstep?

Through file import. Edgewonk has a dedicated TopstepX importer, and we found no auto-sync for TopstepX.

Does Tradervue work with Topstep?

Tradervue's broker list has no TopstepX-specific import. It has a generic CSV importer, but we couldn't confirm whether a TopstepX export imports through it cleanly.

Does Trademetria work with Topstep?

Through file import. Trademetria's TopstepX integration supports file uploads but not auto-sync.

Why traders use Tanto for TopstepX

  • Trades sync within seconds, and syncing doesn't sign you out of TopstepX.

  • Every trade on a chart with your entry and exit marked, for ES, NQ, CL, GC and the other major futures contracts.

  • MAE, MFE and Captured %, so you can see how far each trade ran and how much of the move you kept.

  • Setup tags with breakdowns by time of day, so you can tell whether a setup actually works or only works in the morning.

  • Combines and funded accounts side by side, separately or rolled up together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is TopstepX auto-sync free?
No. Any journal's auto-sync needs a TopstepX API key, which comes with a paid API subscription from Topstep. File import is the free option in every journal.
Do Tradovate or Rithmic integrations work for Topstep accounts?
No. Topstep accounts trade on TopstepX, so a journal needs TopstepX support specifically.
How far back can a journal import my TopstepX trades?
It varies. Tanto imports your last 30 days when you connect, and TradesViz defaults to 90 days. For anything older, export a file from TopstepX and upload it.
Can I use a file import and auto-sync together?
In Tanto, yes. Connect auto-sync for new trades, then upload a file covering only the dates before you connected, so the two don't overlap.
How do I export my trades from TopstepX?
Open the Trades tab at the bottom of TopstepX, click Export, choose your date range, and click Export again. Most journals expect the Trades export, not Orders.
